Instrument Set Up
Proper Set-up of any instrument begins with proper neck relief. This is all contingent on current fret conditions and heights. Bridge string height is then set and then nut string slot height is then set.
There are several different type of "set ups":
Mandolin or Acoustic Guitar/Bass - bone saddles and nuts must be properly fashuioned in order to provide optimal intonation and response. Especially those using an under-saddle Piezo pickup.
Electric Hard-Tail - Les Paul and other non-tremolo type bridge systems.
Electric Non-Locking Tremolo - Bigsby or Fender type tremolo bridges without secondary string locking at the nut.
Electric Locking Tremolo - Floyd Rose, Kahler, Ibanez Edge just to name a few, where the strings are locked on both ends of the fretboard providing you maximum tuning stability.
Other instruments include: Violins, Cello's, Double (Upright) Bass and other stringed instruments are very similar, but each has it's own way of properly being set-up.
I have done them all here in My shop...
